Chapter 22

Seeing the fireball hurtling toward him, Nicholas let the lightning fade and summoned a mini whirlwind in the doorway, extinguishing the fireball before it could get close. Seeing an opening, Dylan quickly dashed into the room, clouds of roiling darkness surrounding his arms.

Not missing a beat, Pyro threw two fireballs in Dylan’s direction.

The dark masses sloughed off Dylan’s arms and formed a shield, it absorbed the fireballs before bearing down on Pyro and Glacia in the shape of a wave, knocking them both back against the wall.

‘Why are you here?’ Dylan growled.

Glacia threw sharp shards of ice at him in reply. Dylan cursed, not expecting the attack, as the shards dug into his arms.

Nicholas barrelled in to assist Dylan, blasting a gale at the opposing pair. This blew Pyro through the wall where the window was meant to be, debris raining all over him, and sent Glacia crashing through the table.

‘Pyro!’ Glacia screamed, clutching her side as she regained her footing and ran over to assist the coughing and groaning man. ‘Are you alright?’

‘Yeah, I’m fine,’ Pyro replied, sitting up with another slight groan. ‘Damn him!’

Then he spun on his heel and dove through the open window to the outside, Glacia following him out.

‘You’re just not going to give up, are you?’ Nicholas barked out as he and Dylan followed them through the window.

‘Of course not. If I want something that is going to make me rich, then I will stop at nothing to get it.’ Pyro laughed, rolling his shoulders and neck, the joints cracking as flames flared into existence around his closing fists.

Glacia followed his lead and sunk into a fighting stance, drawing out two blades of ice in her hands.

‘And you’ll fight four of us for it?’ Nicholas asked with an eyebrow raised just as Lance and Theo rounded the corner of the building.

‘We want those swords, so if we have to, then yes,’ Glacia replied, raising one hand further in front of her, dagger ready.

‘So just do yourselves, and us, a favour and hand them over!’ Pyro smirked.

‘You know we aren’t going to do that,’ Nicholas replied, falling back into a defensive stance.

Pyro shrugged and brought his arms together and fired an x-shaped blast of flames at Nicholas. He blocked the flames with the wind, then he sent a burst of wind at Pyro, but he dodged the wind. Glacia dove at Nicholas, knives outstretched, but Dylan intercepted her with a mass of darkness, knocking her back. She tumbled back to her feet and threw the knives at Dylan. He blocked the blades with a shield of darkness, but Glacia rushed Dylan, ducking under the shield and tackled him to the ground, then she straddled him and started to throw punches, but he brought his arms up around his head to block, then he rotated his hips, sending Glacia tumbling off him and they both scrambled to their feet and Dylan blasted her off her feet with another mass of darkness.

Pyro ran at Nicholas and swung a flame-covered fist at his head.
